Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous – The Party Continues …
BBQs, a Pirate Party with walking the plank for charity, exclusive culinary offerings, live music on the yachts and an adrenalin fueled poker run made for a fantastic few days on the water and at Kata Rocks
PHUKET, 20 December, 2021 – The Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous 2021 (KRSR) concluded its sixth annual event on the 10th to 12th December 2021 with a fantastic closing party following the theme, “Pirates of Phuket”. At midnight, there was a bidding war to see Richard Pope, the CEO of Kata Rocks and others walk the plank for charity. The proceeds went to the local charity, Phuket Has Been Good To Us (PHBGTU) which has a school that teaches English to underprivileged children in Phuket. Tina Hall of PHBGTU said, “The walking the plank was fantastic, it was so entertaining and raised such an amazing amount of funds for us, truly exceeding our expectations. We would like to thank you all for taking a late-night dip for the children!”
Infinite Luxury and Kata Rocks have been able to go ahead with the KRSR both last year and this year despite all the restrictions surrounding the Covid pandemic. Richard Pope said, “We found last year that following all the lock downs that had gone on around the world, people were just delighted to have a proper party again and it was the same this year with this event being our best one so far.”
The KRSR is an invitation only exclusive 3-day yachting event held in December each year at Kata Rocks in Phuket.
The first day began with the yachts assembling at Kata Rocks for a Partner BBQ for the yacht owners, partners and invited VIP guests. With the usual excellent produce and flowing beverages, caviar and whisky tastings in the wine room, the entertainment went on well into the evening thanks to the Kata Rocks resident DJ, Armina whilst the underwater artist, Olga Belka painted at the bottom of the swimming pool!
On the second day, the fleet of motor yachts cruised along the west coast of Phuket to the Intercontinental Hotel on Kamala Beach where once again a fantastic lunch awaited. Bjorn Courage General Manager, InterContinental Phuket Resort said, “It was a privilege to join the KRSR event and to see the yachts arriving once again at the Intercontinental Hotel following the difficult time the whole world has experienced over the last couple of years.” On board MY Sanook, everyone was entertained with live music from Saxophanist Khun Piti and guitarist Khun Pitakpong. Mike O’Niel, the owner of Sanook said, “Yet again, we have had a fantastic few days of entertainment both out on the water and on land. I very much look forward to next years KRSR and poker run.”
The third day, saw the second edition of the Kata Rocks Poker Run, which is an around the island rally collecting playing cards at five of Phuket’s coastal landmarks. With over twenty boats entered, the adrenalin was running high as Phuket’s Miami Vice wannabes powered away from the start and headed to Xana Beach Club to collect the first card. From there, everyone set off to The Playyard at the top of the island where participants had to cycle around a track before getting their card and then on to Koh Rang Noi island on the east coast of Phuket. Here, everyone went ashore for refreshments before the second racing start. The fourth card was collected from Banana Beach and then all the boats returned to Kata Rocks for the final card, a BBQ and prize giving. The winner was Dan Fidock on Concubine who won a 2-night stay at Kata Rocks with Don Foltz gaining the 2nd best hand and winning a night at The Playyard and Martin Holmes taking 3rd prize and winning a day trip aboard the Phinisi.
In the evening around 250 invited guests attended “The Pirates of Phuket” party at Kata Rocks with fantastic entertainment from Malika and her band, the Thai juggling act ‘Q’ made famous on Thai TV, DJ Armina and special guest DJ, Fabio from Capri. The walking of the plank was the final highlight of the evening with over THB 300,000 being raised for charity as the CEO and others took the plunge all for a good cause.
Gordon Aeria, General Manager of Kata Rocks, said that the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous 2021 had proved to be one of our best events ever giving a perfect mix of luxurious exclusivity combined with fun and frolics. We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s KRSR.” The next years KRSR dates are 8th to 10th December 2022.
