Few cruising grounds in the world rival the Andaman Sea. Limestone towers rise from emerald water, quiet beaches appear around every headland and the sunsets are worth planning a whole day around. With Phuket at its centre, here is how to spend five days exploring it by superyacht, finishing in style at the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous.
The Andaman coast of Thailand offers remarkable variety within short distances. In a single week you can move from sheltered bays and island villages to open water and some of the region’s most celebrated dive sites. From November to April, calm seas and clear skies make it one of Asia’s finest yachting destinations.
Day 1: Phang Nga Bay. Cast off from Phuket’s east coast and cruise into Phang Nga Bay. Explore hidden lagoons by kayak or tender, and anchor among the limestone karsts as the light softens.
Day 2: Koh Yao Noi and the Krabi coast. Spend the morning on the quieter shores of Koh Yao Noi, then cross towards the dramatic cliffs of Railay for an afternoon swim and a sundowner on deck.
Day 3: Phi Phi. Arrive early to enjoy the islands before the day boats, then find a calm anchorage for snorkelling and a long lunch aboard.
Day 4: The Similan Islands. Head north-west to the Similan Islands National Park, open to visitors through the dry season. Granite boulders, white sand and exceptional underwater visibility make this a highlight for divers and swimmers alike.
Day 5: Kata Bay. Sail south to Phuket’s west coast and drop anchor in Kata Bay, in time for the Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous Brunch on Friday 18 December.
There is no better finale to an Andaman voyage. Take the tender ashore to The Clubhouse for an afternoon of exceptional food, premium free-flow, music and the debut of From Tender to Terrace, the Kata Rocks collection created exclusively for the Rendezvous. Every yacht arriving for the Rendezvous is welcomed with a complimentary magnum of Champagne.
Stay on for Saturday’s Kata Rocks Poker Run, rallying between five locations before the awards evening back on the headland.
Whether you are cruising the Andaman for a week or a single day, Kata Bay is waiting on 18 December.
